SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION EXPEDITIONS.

Per Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. It is officially stated,that the scientific expedition to the islands south of New Zealand is to leave the Bluff on 7th November. The Hon. E. McNab is unable to go with the expedition on account of pressure of Parliamentary duties.

News lias been received in this city that the ship Galilee, which is doing the portion of the magnetic survey of the world undertaken by the Carnegie Magnetic Institute of Washington, which comprises the Pacific Ocean, will visit Lyttelton between Ist and loth December and compare her instruments with those at the magnetic observatory in this city.
