ENGLISH EXPRESS DERAILED.

SIXTEEN KILLED AND TWENTY INJL'KED.

London, October 15. Ihe London and -North-Western Kailway Company's express train running between .Crewe and Bristol was derailed at a slurp curve at Shrewsbury. l'ka tram, which was carrying mails and rolling stock, mainly the property of he Great Western Railway, was not travelling at an excessive speed, but the driver overshot the points, though the signals were against Win. The derailment occurred on a viaduct at 2 o clock in the morning, in total Tn. aes3 ' A torrent of rain was falling. The engine was overturned, and the corridor carriages were heaped up on the locomotive in a great pile of wreck«P.» P ort 'on of which became ignited. j screams of the wounded aroused the dwellers below the viaduct. The work of rescue proved very difficult. sixteen persons were killed, including three letter-sorters and a guard. Upwards of twenty were injured. Most of the passengers were residents of Wales.

NINETEEN KILLED AND FORTY INJURED. CARRIAGES COMPLETELY .WRECKED. DANGER SIGNALS DISREGARDED. Received Oct. 10, 11.51; pm . London, October 10. Nineteen were killed and forty injured at Shrewsbury, many severely. Fifteen coaches were completely destroyed. The signalman states that the train was going at 50 miles an hour, the driver disregarding several danger nals and the injunction to approach curves at a speed of ten miles. The vacuum brake had been applied, apparently by the driver, but too late. There were one hundred passengers on the train.

ELECTRIC TRAM DERAILED.

TWO KILLED AXD 31 INJURED. London, October 15. An electric tram at Sowerby Bridge (Yorks) was derailed. It rushed off the bridge and smashed into a house. Two persons were killed and thirty-one badly injured.
