On all occasions bush camps or isolated dwellings have been the scenes of operations. On Sunday a search-party set out and eame upon some unmistakably fresh tracks. Proceeding cautiously, the party soon dropped upon a man who was completely taken by surprise. One ot the party presented a rifle and called upon him to surrender. The quarry stood motionless, and then with a bound | made off into the dense bush. He was pursued for half a mile, but tben escaped. The party discovered a camping- ■ wi'li the proceeds of the robberies. There is no doubt in the minds of the party that the man is Matenga, who was the perpetrator of bush robberies in tie Waiapu district, and who for several years has been a fugitive from justice.
