New York, August 1.1. A tax on bachelors is being energetically imposed in the tuwn of Absecon, >,'e\v Jersey. A wealthy bachelor, Frank Ilamill, appeared before the board of assessors to-day protesting that his taxes had been raised by £2O, and demanding an' explanation. The assessor informed him that the amount was added because he is not married. "I am going to enforce the antibachelor tax law," he exclaimed. "You rich single men escape the care anil expense of raising a family, and yet you kick at the paltry tax of .120." Other rich bachelors have discovered that they, too, are ordered to pay extra t#x!» this year, and they are talking >y engaging a lawyer to contest the law s validity in the courts before the State Tax Board.
