SCOUNDRELISM AT TARATA.
To the Editor. Sir, —Tlio scoundrels of Tarata liavc evidently taken courage since the verdict of (lie Grand Jury in the celebrated Upunake tailing and feathering case. The particulars are briefly as follows; .My wife's pony accidentally got out of the paddock oil to the public road. Apparently, as soon as the shades of evenin" came on she fell into the hands of a coterie of fiends. Well, she was not tarred and feathered; quite the reverse. They did not leave so much hair on her tail and mane ;■ * would make a baldheaded man iv- : nvi.ms. Now, Mr. Editor, is this the <l-.s- :tf joke lo be encouraged'/ I think not. I have placed the matter in the hands of the police, and in so doing 1 am acting on the unanimous recommendation of all tlmse who have seen the horse, and who declare it not only a disfigurement, but rruellv to animals.—l am, etc., G. A. GAUSTAD.
