KAILWAVMEYS UNION RECOMJIvND STATE OWNERSHIP. PRIVATE ENTERPRISE CHAMPION KD BV LABOR M.P, Received Oct 11, 11.25 p.m. London, October 11. The Congress of the Amalgamated itailway Servants' Society, with two dissentients, recommended State control of the railways. Mr. Richard lie'.l, M.P., general secretary of the society, declared that when nationalisation came, thousands of railway men would suffer, because, much surjdus labor would follow upon the removal of competition. He concluded by championing private investors in railways and making a bold stand against some confiscation ideas current.
Subsequently the Congress altered the resolution to read 'State ownership" instead of "State control," and also adopted a resolution condemning the tendency among railways to penalise British trade by giving preferential rates to foreign producers and manufacturers.
