SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The Board of School Commissioners held its usual monthly meeting yesterday morning. There were present: Messrs Jas. Wade (chairman), F. Simpson (Crown Lands Commissioner), and 11. Faull. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs Jennings and Major, M.'s.H.R.

The chairman reported having seen Mr Skinner, the engineer, in reference to the removal of earth from St. Michael's Square to the Board's section in Pendarves street. The total cost was estimated not to exceed £IOB. Wet weather had delayed completion of the contract.

Mr Faull submitted his report upon fencing of the road deviation effected some time ago through the reserve leased by Mr F. Andrews at the approach to the upper Tlkorangi bridge and the fencing of the piece of land recently proposed to be taken there for scenery preservation purposes on the Huirangi town belt.: Mr Andrews had no recollection of ever having received payment of the fence, which was only of a temporary nature. It was not the class of fence, he thought, that Mr Andrews would have erected if he had been paid. In explanation of the-report, the secretary (Mr Corkill) said that at the instance of the late Mr Sarten the road line, which previously separated two reserves, was altered to run through that leased to Mr Andrews, and it was arranged that Mr Andrews be compensated and an allowance made for fencing along the new road. For this purpose £2O had been forwarded by the Treasury from the Public Works Department, and £7 10s had been paid to Mr Andrews. That gentleman had now recollected the receipt of the money. Upon the deatli of Mr Sarten the matters were left incomplete, and the transaction was still in that stage. Meanwhile, about £l3 remained in the liands of the Commissioners, and he wanted to get rid of it. With regard to the scenic reserve he had been informed that that matter could not be completed, owing to the amount of compensation claimed by the tenant.

After some discussion, Mr Simpson undertook to look into the matter and report to next meeting. The solicitor (Mr Quilliam) reported the completion of G. E. Walker's lease.—The secretary said he was pleased to report that Mr Walker had already made good progress with the ploughing required. The solicitor further reported the particulars of the award in the arbitration incidenal to the issue of a renewal lease to N. C. Young. Mr E. C. Robinson, engineer to the Stratford County Council, wrote that owing to the objection of Mr Johnson to have his land cut up by the deviation of the Ohura road at the Kahouri bridge, the original plan had been abandoned. He submitted a new line, through the property of the Commissioners leased to Mr Wilmshurst, who had given his consent provided that he was not put Lo any expense in the matter. The secretary mentioned that the deviation would reduce Mr Wilinslmrst's leasehold by half-an-acre, and that would mean altering the lease a little. On the motion of Mr Simpson, s."onded by Mr Faull, the Board consentted to the road being taken through its reserve, provided that £5 is paid for land taken, that the County Council erects substantial fencing, pays expenses incidental to the alteration of the title and lease, and that arrangements arc concluded with the tenant.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarded a tracing showing the correct boundary of land recently acquired for scenic purposes at "The Meeting of the Waters."

The treasurer reported a credit bal anee of £ 12.il 7s fid.

The Hoard agreed to the application of Mr >f. O'Connor (through Messrs Weston and Weston) to transfer to A. W. Locke his interest in section 150. Hun.

I'lans of proposed additions to Mr D. Charteris' resilience were approved. Accounts amounting to £H were passed for payment.
