PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Rahotu on Wednesday. Present: Messrs J. I'oung, M. Decgan, A. Cmipman, W. Revell, J. C, O'Korke, and P. Willcox. In the absence of the chairman -Mr Young was voted to the chair. Sick surfacemen. —Resolved, That I). Anglcsay and L. Fischer, who have been sick, bo allowed half-pay on two week's illness. Explanation.—The foreman, in his report, stated what time he had olf to attend to other work and giving full particulars.—Explanation accepted. lliaia road.—The settlers on the road wrote, agreeing to contribute £ for £ in cash or Jal>or to attend to the road. Upper Kahui road—The settlers wrote ; asking that a tax be placed on milling timber taken along the road.—Held over ( until next meeting. ■ Unfellcd trees—J. K. Law wrote asking that he be empowered to fell a number of trees which are standing opposite his section on the Ngariki road, to do the same at the Board's expense.— Resolved, That the clerk write and ask Mr Law what he will charge, and that the same be referred to the foreman. Opourapa road loan.—The Treasury Department stated that the No. 2 loan had been provisionally granted. Native rate roll. —Mr Willcox suggested that Mr Sam Jackson be employed to revise the native rate roll. Mr Jackson waited on the Board and explained the process he would take.— Resolved that he be entrusted with the work of revising the native roll, and that the Board give him a letter empowering him to make a search in the department for the names. Rate.—Mr. Willcox proposed that the general rate for the year be 1 /ad. — Si'cond"d by Mr Voting.—Mr Chapman moved as an amendment that the rate iie %d. —Seconded by Mr. Revell.—The amendment was lost, and the motion carried. The foreman was granted three days off. The subject was brought up of the rangers doing too much '"night ranging/ 5 but no action was taken, as there was no specific complaint. Mr Rofhery was granted leave of absence from the meeting. Kina road.—Resolved that the foreman attend to the above road. Resolved, That the pound book be laid on the table every monthly meeting. The usual accounts were passed for payment.
