. ; .~r Per Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. The Baptist Union annual report reviewed the progress made by the denomination in the last quarter of a century. The , Union, was, established in Wellington years ago. The membership of the churches then totalled 18(11; this year there were 4485 members. Over twenty, new churches and branches had been established durin" the past quarter of a century. The Union had more than doubled in members, sittings, churches, and power, the membership increasing at the jate of fa per cent, .every five years. The nett increase during the year was 207. During the year a large reduction in. debt on church property had been effected. Congregations had given very generously, and the denomination was perhaps less encumbered than any other religions body in the Dominion. The New Zealand Baptist 'had had a successful circulation, which was substantially increased, and considerable profit accrued from the year's working. Churches h.ul done vigorous work: from ninny places successful aggressive efforts were reported. New churches had been established nnd new buildings erected at Epsom and Hamilton. New churches, also, were erected at Caversham, llicenrlon, and Feilding. The report concluded by stating that urgent appeals had reached the Union for vigorous extension m many places! It was hoped that the .'hurdles would generously respond.
