The Star Football Club's social last night was iairly well attended eonsider- , ing the many; functions of a similar ; nature tlmt have just eventuated. The management had been entrusted to the first junior fifteen, and they worked well indeed. Ail the arrangements were good, and the supper provided by the ladies was excellent. The supper-table decorations were the worK of Miss Maud Capel, and were very pretty. Mr. Kountree's orchestra, supplied capital music, r ami Messrs. 12. Humphries, A. L. Humpliries, and J, A. Clark were M.C.'s. j The ladies' committee comprised Mesdames Dockrill (president), F. Richards, ' 11. Stacker, ltyan, Siiiiinonds, Black, Jury, 0 Driscull, F. (1. Clark, Misses ; Humphries, S. Cupel, Xieoll, and llanna. j During the evening His Worship the Mayor, who is also president of the club, asked tin; Mayoress to present to Mr. Weller (tlie captain), for the first juniors, with tiic Taranaki Rugby Union i cup won j tliem in the recent second--1 grade competition. Mr. Dotkrill said that this cup showed the Star juniors - to be the best lifteen in its class—which I! s-'y'ng a good ae; I—and the sucr of that team augureft rrcii ior the ' future of the club. • There was a possi--1 bility of a return of the Star Club's ■ prowess of years gone by. He then ' called upon Miss O'Brien, on behalf ■.,[ ■ -Mrs. O'Brien, the donor of the Carbine , Shield, to present it to the same team, i who had proved themselves the best in , local contests. In replying, Mr. Weller . said that the team's victory was prin- > cipally due to the excellent coaching 5 and management by Mr. H. Stocker. His . Worship tlien called upon Mr. Stocker , to receive from the members of the ; team a handsomely-framed photograph i of the team, with presentation tablet. Mr. Stocker was completely taken by surprise. In acknowledging the gift, he ' said he had taken a keen interest in | the ''boys," and they deserved their win, playing the game like men both on and oil' the field.
