■VVARKA. (From Our Own Correspondent! ) t A picnic and a cricket match (married t v. single) will be held in Mr Brophy's 3 paddock on Thursday next. The annual , ball will lie held in the evening of the same day. Two of Ihe suppliers at the local faeI tory have left and are going to the ; cheese factory at Pungaroliu. They both seem to think there is more ill , cheese than butter. There arc a few , others that would like to follow in their steps, hut they are looking at the disitance. The quantity of milk at the local factory is still increasing, there being about !)l>o gallons of milk a day put through. The daily output of butter now is twelve boxes, as against fourteen boxes a day before the. other suppliers left, one of whom was the largest supplier, both for last season and this. Sunshine is a thing of the past in this poor unfortunate district, there not having been a day this last two months without rain. If this continues much longer the farmers will have to build boats to get round their cow yards. This time last year the farmers were singing out for rain, as it was too dry, but Ihis year they are singing out for sun as it is too wet. The trout-fishing season opened here last Tuesday, but no large takes have been reported, the largest'number being four. If the Acclimatisation Society were to stock the coastal rivers a little more, instead of iilling the streams near the towns and letting the others go, there would be more inducement for the angler, and the Society would find tint they would get n good many pounds more from the country districts than Is now the case. Most people are not going to take out licenses when there arc only a few fish in the streams. It is now some lime since any fish have been liberated along the coast. Most of the farmers in this district are busy ploughing their last season's turnip paddocks for grass.
