POVERTY BAY NEWS.
Per Press Association. Gisborne, Saturday Night. A proposal is afoot to establish freez-ing-works at Tolaga. A meeting to consider the matter is to be* held on 12th October. Police Inspector Dwyer, who has been paying a visit to the coast, was surprised at the excellent standard of the conduct and accommodation at 'he hotels. During the week there have been as many as forty patients in the hospital, the general average being twenty-five. The cases are of a general nature. Captain Mitchell, of the Frank Guy, reports that he was in company with the overdue barque Empreza off North Capo in the middle of last month. It was blowing hard, and the Emprcza could carry no canvas, and was blown away north-east. The message picked up about the Constance Craig is locally regarded as a fake. It is regarded that, if genuine, the vessel would have drifted to the coast in the same way as the bottle. It is further asserted that nobody called Smith was on board. Captains Fernandez and Cummings have been appointed by the Marine Department to survey the Hazel Craig.
