WOMAN'S WAR ON MAN.
THREATENED DANGER TO OiVIIn the opinion of Professor Armstrong, professor of chemistry in the City ami Guilds of London Central Institute, a serious danger is threatened tu civilisation by the manner in which women are abandoning the sphere of domestic duties and encroaching upon the domain of man. "It is difficult," said the Professor in a pa [km*' foad at the meeting of the British Association at Leicester, "for mere man to understand women, and the advanced woman apparently is aggressively bent on displacing him everywhere. "At the same time, it is obvious that she is Incoming more and more neglectful of her own domain, and that in consequence the foundations of home, if not all destroyed, are being undermined..
"If we are to avoid disruption, the : attempt must be made gradually to 1 frame scientific conceptions of our res- | ponsibiUties and duties. BLACK OUTLOOK. "This is, perhaps, the most serious j danger to which our civilisation is confronted at the present time. If we caul foresee it and provide against it, we shall save ourselves. Otherwise the outlook is black. "My present object," continued the professor, "is to hie a petition for help on behalf of the weaker sex—the men — those frail creatures who arc absolutely dependent on women. It is our pride and privilege to fight for the women as well as to provide food and raiment for them when they have secured us as their prizes. "Before they marry us the majority of us are called on to show that we pan provide means to keep the house going. Shall we not soon bo justified in asking women to produce certificates of competency—to give proof that they are skilled in all matters relating to household management—domesticity in a word?
'Ts not the time at hand when the pendulum should swing back and women should cease their unreasonable competition with men? The place of woman in society is defined by NpJur'. She is superman. ATX OP VALVF. '•From a biological standpoint we are all of value in the world, in so far as we can contribute to the maintenance of i the species. We have no right indivi-, dually to refuse to bear a proper share | of the burden, nor have others the rightto prevent us, unless it is cleaT that the contribution wc are to make would be undesirable, "The present system of education is nothing short of a disgrace to our civilisation. no attempt being made in our schools to render boys and girls efficient citizens, fi iris should be given that kind of education which best fits them for their duties in life." Mi>s T'oxlcy, of Manchester, said that we needed in each school work rooms where we could say to the children "Do." At present we set them in rows ot desks aud said "Don't." I Both Sir Fhilip Magnus and Professor Armstrong strongly attacked the Board of Kducation, the latter declaring that, unless it was re-organised root and branch, there was no bone for us.
