(From Our Own Correspondents.) OI'L'NAKE. The recent rough weather has greatly interfered with the working of our port. During September the boat has only been able to work here onee. A meeting is to be held here next week to try and form a tenuis club iu the town. It is to be hoped all interested will attend, as a tennis club would till a long-felt want. Dominion Day passed off quietly here. At 11 a.m. the business places closed, and Mr YV. C. Dudley (chairman of the Town Board) read the proclamation in the presence Of the school cadets anil a number of townspeople. He also, in an appropriate speech, referred to the im]K>rtanee of tile occasion. The cadets then saluted the flag, after which three cheers were given for the Dominion and the Xational Anthem was sung. The annual meeting of the Howling Club was held on Friday evening, Dr. Morrison presiding. The balance-sheet showed that there was a balance in hand of £2O 18s, and also that £3O had been paid off the mortgage account, which now stood at £230. The president stated this was due to the assiduous manner in which Mr Teuton had worked as secretary. Several new members wefe proposed. At Te Kiri on Friday evening a farewell social was tendered to Mr F. Bates (school master), who is leaving for 11awera, and .Mr I'. Collins, who is leaving for East Coast. There was a large attendance, both being very popular in the district. During the evening Mr H. Muuro presented Mr Bates with a silver-mounted dressing case and outfit and a ladies' purse, and Mr Collins with a portmanteaux for himself and a travelling rug for Mrs Collins. Both rei turned thanks in a few appropriate remarks.
