Received Oct. 3, 11.32 p.m. Melbourne, October 3. Mr. Bent delivered his Budget this (afternoon. The revenue for the year wa« £8,313,241, which was £758,673 ,'n excess of the estimate. The expenditure totalled £7,501,031, or £49,000 less than the estimate. The surplus for the year was £812,210. Of this amount, £614.000 had been devoted to the reduction of dencit and £IOO,OOO towards making good the deficiency in railway rolling Stock. He estimates the revenue for th» current year at £8,101,782, and the expenditure at £57,954 more than the preceding year, due to an increase of sixpence per day to certain employees and to increases in the price of coal, rails,, umber, and metals. The Government intended to introduce a Railway Bui creating a railway interest reserve fond limited to £300,000, and a railway additions and improvement fund limited to £200,000.
