HORSE PARADE.
I The weather was tine for the horse j parade held under tlic auspices of the I Taranaki. Agricultural Society at Sew Plymouth oil Saturday. A considerable number of farmers and horse breeders were present, keen interest being displayed ill the developments, proportions, actions and styles of the various types of horses shown. ?en luuses paraded. It was expected that there would have been a larger number, but the comparatively small entry of horses was probably owing to tho unsettled st ;.te of |he weather, some risk being attached to travelling horses in top condi, : ri. However the thoroughbred, hackney, English hackney, trotting, coaching, and Clydesdale types were represented. The horses wre put through the various paces in Egmont street. They then paraded Devon street and returned to the section opposite the railway station, where a ring wis formed, and breeders inspected the animals closely. A good deal of comment, was heard, showing that breeders appreciated the parade for tile purpose of comparison. Several of the horses are quite new to the district.
THOROUGHBRED. Gilnockie, the blood champion at last ye.r's Tarauaki Agricultural Society's annual show, is in top bloom, and shows evidence of careful treatment during tiie winter months. lie is a handsome dark bay, with black points, and has improved very considerably sine; l last year. Gilnockie comes from
some Oi the best blood ever importr-d into the colony, ;>s will be seen by his pedigree. As a performer on the turf Gilnockie had a very successful run both over hurdles and on the Hat. As a stud boiv.e he shows all the essential gnod points, and had many admirers on Saturday. Although a thoroughbred, lie is stoutly built horse. Mr JoneS should have no difficulty in filling Gilnockie's list for the tfeason. ITe "was the only thoroughbred stallion paraled.
TKOTTING AND COACHING. Lord Kitchener, a very useful, beautifully proportioned horse, is looking his best- He is a dark chestnut, in color, and has a kind disposition. He is well-known in tho district, and hns
sired some of tho most useful s:iddle and harness horses. As a mover he has just the action that good judges desire. Lord Kitchener has a long rceoi;U of [honors, gained in, good company, and his owner. Mr .Toe •West, has a horse that he need not fear to show to any judge. Silver Spec, a hn<ckney from the Wanganui district, is a roan in color, and is a sturdy, healthy kind of horse.
Count Beldon, a fine -upstanding bny, by the well-known trotting horse Jndsre Bidden, paraded in good fettle . This is Count "Relden's second sen son in *he district, and thnso who desire to breed fast, well-bred carriage and general utility animals should find this horse's services of great vnluo. Ho is to travel this year from the owner's (Mr 0. Arden's) farm, to Oaknra and to "New Plymouth and district. Count BeMen is in fine feltle for his season's work.
Berlin Mite, a trotting horse with any amount of breeding. is from (hp Stratford district. and was shown in good •ondition. TTis stock are very useful ISrrlin Mac is hy Berlin, and ! ias already nearly filled his list, for 11m season.
Baron Power, an improved trotting horse, owned by Mr Laurent, C iriin;;ton road, was shown in harness. Tie is n nice mottled chestnut., and is by the splendid trotting sire, Jersey. His dam, Cissy, is by Mamhorina. Baron Power is well furnished for a 3-yenr-oM and should develop into a frond type of horse. He will stand at the owner's farm ami will be at the service of breeders at the Criterion stables tn Saturdays.
Victory, the English hackney liorse, imported and owned hy Rr Harrison, of hltliam, has developed since last Year, and is now a model of his type. A rich bay in color, with black' points, and any amount of the right sort of bone under him, Victory is a very fashionable stepper. His breeding is very clean, and goes hack to 1702, This horse is hound to become more in favor as his stock becomes known. His foals tli is season are excellent in quality, serviceable, mid evenly proportioned. CLYDESDALES. Lord ltobcrts, a well-furnished sire, bred by tile late ill- Andrew Ilastie, of Mamiia, is in tlie pink of condition. [lis I stuck have turned out rcnuiKably well, in fact some of this horse's progeny have been sold for very large figures, a IS-year-old bringing £135, « 2-year-old £125. and 1V yearling £llO. 1.0r,1 Roberts is to stand at his owner's (Mr 11. Purdie's) farm, Waitara road, and there is no doubt he "will, as usual, receive a large amount of support. What's Wanted, a new horse to this district, comes from the Hnwcra district. Jle is a bold, massive horse, of excellent quality, and iiis stock o-o I liming out especially well. Mr A. N. M;'K Barrett road, Omata, recciiUy piirchased What's Wanted at a higlj fig. ure. He is six years old and stands lfi.2 on short, flat-bone] legs, and has fine quarters. His breeding shows that: be comes from the right type of (lydesdalns. Horse breeders will doubtless find him a useful sire for breedin" the right kind of farm horse. ° SUFFOLK PUNCH.
Democrat, the only Suffolk Punch in the province, is looking particularly well. Tills horse was imported last year liy the owner, Mr fi. Wilson, of Stratford, from New South Wales. He was in considerable favor last season with breeders .and as his foals Rive promise of being useful kinds for the district. Democrat Is hound to hive a full list. He is the true Suffolk Punch color—chestnut, with silver mane and tail—and is a very massive, active beast. r v-
