They.; want prohibition, not protection. ~ There will, the Chronicle predicts, Boon ■ he a reaction brought about by dear prices, caused by stagnation of trade and the decline of railway business, not by British traders' protests. Mr Collins, tho Commonwealth agent in London, in n letter to the Times fully replies to the correspondent Zollverein'n recent letter dealing with thS Australian tariff. -1 A HUDDERSFIELD PROTEST. Received Sept. 29, .4.35 p.m. London, September 28. The Hudderßfield Chamber of Commerce adopted a resolution protesting against the enforcement of the Commonwealth tariff without affording an adequate opportunity of carrying out existing contracts. Mr. Brooke, the proposer of the resolution, declared it was unfair to trap traders into sending goods at 15 per cent, duty (before the tariff was imposed) and charge 30 per cent, when the goods reached Australia. Alderman Walker, in seconding the motion, said a greater injustice was HOTer perpetrated by any Government. Hitherto, time had always been allowed before enforcing new duties.
