The race was won by about a '-2£J2|. mile. DETAILS OF THE RACE. Received 28th, 8.33 p.m. Melbourne, September 24. The riding conditions for the race were unfavorable. The roads were sloppy owing to rain; nevertheless, some splendid work was done. Dobie, the winner, left Warrnambooj at Cl 3in the Jnorning, and reacnefl Melbourne at 1.57 p.m. Oaks was next to finish, about a quarter of a mile b'ohind. Then came Willis. Oaks' time was 8 hours 24 minutes 47 seconds, and Willis' 8 hours 7 minutes 42 seconds. Larcomb, who was at scratch, made the fastest time, 7 hours 40 minutes 10 seconds, lowering J. Arnst's record by over 3 minutes. Larcomb finished 15th. It is reported the tack fiend was again in evidence; causing disaster to some riders.
