FIRES.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. About 11 o'clock on Saturday night a fire broke out in a two-story wooden building known as Clifton House, containing thirty rooms, situated in Gra-ham-street. The house belonged to the estate of the late H. F. Hardy, and was occupied by Mrs. Ross as a boardinghouse. It appears that the Arc was caused by a lighted candle which was placed 011 a dressing-table in the servant's bedroom setting fire' to some clothes hanging behind a door. The servant's room was burned out, and the fire spread along the roof, but the remainder of the building was not dain;ed. The insurances, if any, are not available.
