ALLEGED ARSON.

Per Press Association. Cliristchurch, Last Night, A man named Robert O'Callaghan, a timber and coal merchant, was n nested to-night on a charge of arson. Accused rented a small cottage in Linwood, which he furnished, and he is alleged to have attempted to fire the building yesterday afternoon by placing a lighted candle, surrounded by paper and dry chips, in a cupboard. The candle, however, was discovered and extinguished hefore it had burned down to the heap of inflammable material. O'Callagluvh's iurniture was insured for £IOO.
