(From Our Own Correspondents.) j WAREA. j A rifle match for Mr C. 11. King's' trophy took plate at the range on Wednesday last, in line weather. Mr W. B. Smith proved the winner. The cricket dance lias been postponed for a fortnight, owing to Mr Boyce's farewell at Okato oti the 20th inst., the night that the cricketers' dance was to have been held here.

The first cricket practice-of the season took place on Saturday afternoon, in fine weather. There was a good attendance of members. It is rumored that Messrs Ducker Bros, are about to establish timber yards in the place. KORU.

A well-attended meeting of the Korn ratepayers was- held in the Korti llall on Monday evening to consider the advisability of making the road passable. Mr Raili occupied the chair—Mr Morris said that the best way to make the road passable was to petition the Minister of Public Works for a grant to repair the road and to give the Board power to restrict the trallic.—Mr Smart said they should compel the mill to lav down a tramway, and suggested that a letter be sent to the member for the district iii connection with the matterIt was decided that a petition be drawn up and ?eut through the Road Board to the Minister of Public Works re a grant for the Korn road. Mossrs. Bortliwick and Sons' canning works are nearing completion, and the new machinery is ordered and on its way here. It is hoped that canning will be commenced in November.
