SUGGESTED TRAIN ALTERATIONS.

TO BENEFIT DAIKY CLASSES. At yesterday's meeting of the Education Hoard, Mr Tisch stated tl|;it it was intended lu establish dairy and agricultural ''lasses in connection with the Now Plymouth Technical School, and these classes would have an important licaring on the chief industries of the district. Under the present train arrangements if cliildrcn were brought in from Hie iVaitara and Tnglewood districts they necessarily lost a whole day from school, whereas if they were brought iu at 9.30 a.m. they would lose only the morning's work. Pupils from districts, too, were debarred from taking advantage of secondary education at the New Plymouth High School, seeing that, according to the present railway arrargemems, llicv could not reach "the school until after 11 a.m. Again, manv country teachers were debarred by the nnsiiiliible train timetable from attending any teachers' classes lmld before 11 a.m.' on Saturdays. Prom this, he urged, it could easily be seen that many of (he teachers and children in (he neighborhood of New Plymouth were deprived of certain educational advantages enjoyed in other districts, and to which they were justly entitled. He moved, Mr Morton seconded, and it was resolved. That a letter be sent to the Hon. Minister for Railways pointing out the inconvenience and hardship to school children who attend the New Plymouth Technical and High Schools, and that this Hoard ro-pectfully ask the lion. Minister for Railways to favorably consider an alleralioii in the present railway timetable, enabling the morning train from south to arrive in New Plymouth at an earlier hour than at present: ami lh.it a copy of the letter and the resolution be sent to the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce a-khig for their co-opera-tion.
