CONDUCT OF INQUESTS.
THE AMENDED CORONERS BILL. Per Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The Coroners Bill, of which the Minister of Justice (Mr. McGowan) has charge, provides that an inquest may, be held before a coroner alone, unless the -Attorney-General directs in any speeilied case that an inquiry shall be held by jurors. In the absence of such direction the coroner may have an inquest taken by himself'or jurors, as he thinks fit. The Bill also provides that it shall not be necessary for a coroner or any juror to view the body, and the provision is that, at an inquest,' any person who, in the opinion of the coroner, has •sufficient interest in the subject may'attend personally or by counsel and may examine and cross-examine witnesses. It is also specifically provided that where the subject of an inquest is a person who, at.his death, was a member of an industrial union, a representative of that union shall be qualified to conduct such examination of witnesses.
