At Oamaru Major Keddejl, S.M., took his leave of the bench yesterday, and will retire on a pension, lie has occupied the position of Magistrate for nearly forty years, for the last fifteen years in Oamaru. A full representation of the liar was present yesterday, and Mr. .Newton, as spokesman, emphasised the good feeling existing. A Press telegram received last night intimates that the Governor will leave for Palinerston .North this morning for the purpose of opening the Alexandra Wan), for women, an addition to the local hospital. At a ineeting of the Masterton Borough Council last night Mr. W. T. Mansfield was appoiuted acting-town clerk and borough engineer. The death of Mr. John J. Williams occurred yesterday afternoon at llokitika (says a Press wire). The deceased, who was a prominent Mason, was for many years licensee of the Cafe de Paris Hotel. He was 75 years of ago, and a native of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.
