ERSKINE is a very superior | well-bred bay horse of the very best uality, and true type of the Clydesdale reed, standing lli hands ii'/i inches high, le is a very massive horse, with clean at bones, strong, wall-formed joints, leuutiful long silky hair, and grandlyormed round feet of good quality, with ine broad hoof heads. He has a ul head, and eyes characteristic 01, ourage and endurance, a good neck audi rest, well-sprung ribs, remarkably good oins and strong short-coupled back. His .ction, both at the walk aud trot, is all hat can be desired. Altogether he is , most compactly-built, well-put-toge-lier specimen of a draught horse. Lord Erskine was bred by J. S. lolmes of Awamoa, Oamaru, and is by he imported sire "Sandy Erskine," who s the sire of. the well-known champion nare, "Lady Erskine"—owned by A! Alexander, Esq., Normanby, Taranaki—;he dam of the champion two-year-old jolt, jVlarcellus, recently purchased by kV. Taylor, Esq., Te Awamutu, at the •ecord price of 750 guineas. Lord Erskine's Dam, Pearl 11., is by ;he famous sire, Crown Prince, grand lam Sapphire, dam of Accountant, winner of numerous first prizes; this mare has only been beaten by her stable companion's great jiund dam, Pearl, a mare specially selected by the late J. B. Blair, and imported on account of the late Hon. Matthew Holmes. From the foregoing it j will be seen that Lord Erskine is descended from the very best blood of good ) breeding strains, and he is certain to prove a getter of the beat type of Clydesdales. His. show ring successes prove him to be a horse of individual high-class merit. In 1900 he gained the following awards: At Ashburton, first and champion; at the, International Show, Christchurch, ,se<'''-'d prize and reserve champion", also-Jtrst prize for best stallion in the .v-liking competition (beating the champion stallion Pride of Newton), and first prize for Lord Rothschild's silver bowl for the best Colonial-bred stallion (Shire or Clydesdale) by an imported sire, thus gaining the highest number of awards at the Show. Lord Erskine was purchased in. April, 1907, at a eost of 800 guineas by F. A. Bremer, of Okaiawa, Taranaki, from Mr Robt. Clarke, Rosemeath Stud, Ashburton. He is a very massive horse, with clean, flat bones, strong and well-formed joints, beautiful silky hair, and feet of good quality. He has a beautiful head, neck, and crest, well-sprung ribs, and strong, short-coupled back. Altogether, he is a most compactly built, well-put-together specimen of a Clydesdale horse. WHAT'S WANTED as a yearling gained first prize at the Egmont A. and P. Society's Show, and first prize as a two-year-old at the Taranaki Metropolitan Show, llis sire, Armadale, was got by that celebrated breeding and show-ring sire Glengyle, out of the fine breeding mare Nancy, who was shown until 13 years of age, and was never beaten in her class. She won nine first and four champion prizes. Duchess of Alexander's gr. dam, Jenny, was one of the best draught mares ever bred or imported to the colony, being dam of the New Zealand and Australian champion mare, Flower of Balmoral. His dam, Duchess of Alexandra, was a most successful prize-winner, having gained the following prizes, viz.;— First and champion at Tapanui ('South Island) as a two-year-old. First prize at Egmont A. and P. So* ciety's Show. First and champion at Wanganui. First and champion at Taranaki. First prize as brood mare and champion prize as best draught mare or filly at Taranaki Metropolitan Show, New Plymouth, 1900. From the foregoing it will be seen that WHAT'S WANTED'S breeding cannot be surpassed, and he is certain to prove himself a getter of the very best type of Clydesdales. Terms: £3 10s. As a yearling he secured a first prize at the Hawkes Bay Show, first at Wanganui, first at Egmont, also first at Taranaki. As a two-year-old ho was first at Hawkes Bay, first and champion at Egmont, and first at Taranaki. The horse has been shown seven times and never beaten.
