COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENT CLAIMS.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The Arbitration Court gave judgment „ to-day in the case brought by the Publie Trustee against the Bruce County Council and James Ferguson, a claim for compensation in respect of James Ferguson, junior, who was killed by a fall of earth whilst employed by his father in road-construction work for the Bruce County Council. The action was taken by the Public Trustee on behalf of deceased's mother and sisters, of whom he was the principal supporter. The Court found that deceased had been employed as a laborer, and that his mother and four sisters were partly dependent on his earnings. The County Council was ordered to pay £l5O to claimant for the benefit of the dependants referred to. It was further declared that the respondent council was entitled to be indemnified by the respondent, James Ferguson, against such liability. Respondents were ordered to pay claimant's costs, £lO 10s, with dis-. bursements and witnesses' expenses. • . In the case Daniel Cremens v. John Campbell Begg, claim for compensation for accident sustained whilst bushfelling on respondent's station at Makoreta, the result of which was the formation of a hernia, the Court held that the claim for compsneation was not made within j three months after the occurrence of the accident, as required by section 12 of the Act, and on that ground dismissed the application.
