MOA ROAD BOARD.
The Moa Road Board sat on Saturday. There were present: Messrs 11. Trimble (chairman), A. Corkill, T. Ohamney, A E. Lawrence, A. Chard. G. Marsh, G Capper, C. P. Young and P. Hoby. AN OLD ROAD. Mr R. Old, on his own behalf, and for two other settlers, waited on the Board and offered to purchase the old Short road, leading from the Hursthouse road the King road. It was useless, and never likely to be used, as it would cost about a thousand pounds to open it for traffic. He wanted the land turned into cash, for the 'benefit of the Hurst■house road. He was willing to aive £o an acre for the land. Mr Chamney said that after the expenses were paid there would be nothing lrft for the Hursthouse road account. nr^rVwsW The chairman explained that if the road were closed, the Board must have Hie land valued by an expert valuer, and ■ifr™ a(l J oini "g owners at his value Air Old said he would not stick to a pound or two. Mr Chamney suggested a committee to report. Mr Cork-ill opposed this, and moved that the necessary steps be taken to close the road.-Mr Lawrence seconded and the motion was carried LOAN APPROVED. ' THE GRADER TRIALS. Mr Chamney said that as this was ; really a test of the grader for the bene- • ht of the road district, he thought it I entirely wrong to charge the work to ■ the road on which the work was to be done. He understood the grader required six horses and two men. Mr Lawrence said that Mr Corkill had oficred to lend a team for any work to be done on the Toe Toe road, and deserved the thanks of the Board for his generosity. NORFOLK ROAD. A special rate of a half-penny in the pound on the properties fronting Norfolk road west, lo raise funds For repairs was struck. This was in accordance with a petition of nearly all the persons interested. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Ward explained that he had been absent from work on acount of an accident whilst cutting fern, and also because of a severe cold. He reviewed his work of the month. Foreman Hoskin reported, inter alia, that the Bedford" road bridge west of the Lcpper road was in a bad state. ITfe recommended replacing it with a pipe culvert. The settlers were quite willing to help with free labor. Lcpper I road and King road needed metal for repairs. The County Council had been ] carting out metal for the Junction road, I and damaged the Dudley road in places. Foremen will be instructed to repair Windsor road culvert; clear slips on Davis road; clear water-tables on Bristol road; to construct pipe culvedt on Lep- | per road, in place of unseafe bridge; and ' I to replace culvert on Mangaotea road.
