PROVINCIAL NEWS.

LEPPERTON. (From our Own Correspondent.) i The great event of the year here, the annual ball, eventuated on Wednesday, 18th inst.. Considering the abominable weather we have been favored with of late, the committee are to be congratulated on their good fortune in having such a fine evening for the function. The following ladies and gentlemen acted on the committee:—Mrs J. Robinson, Misses Wells, Misses Garner, Miss Wooding, Miss A. Old, Messrs S. and A. Roberts, R. Wells, J. Robinson, ,1. and I'. Crowe, and A. Sampson. Thanks to the energy and good taste of the above committee, the ball-room presented a charming appearance, being hung with Union Jacks and Dominion ensigns. Dancing commenced about 8.15 p.m., the music being supplied by Messrs ll.' Tmibridgo (piccolo), E. Hellier (violin), and James (piano). Messrs J. Crowe and S. Roberts, as usual, made very efficient M.C.'s. Being the wielder of a masculine pen, I shrink from thfl task of describing the ladies' dresses; perhaps some of your fair Lcpperton readers may essay the attempt. But I can dilate on the quality of the supper provided by the ladies of the district; it was simply "scrumptious." N.B. (Noah Webster died before he could gel •'scrumptious" into his dictionary). The table was most artistically decorated by the ladies of the committee, and it was" loaded with a collection of good things for the edification of the "inner man"— and woman. The committee desire to return their heartiest thanks to the ladies of the district for the splendid spread provided hy llicni. 1 hear it is the intention of the committee to give a children's dance on Friday evening.
