Mrs. Brewer, relict of the late Mr. H. N. Brewer, formerly of H.M. Customs, died at Onehunya'last week, aged 8-1 years. Mr. D. C. C. Gcbbie, of Matapu, has been appointed in connection with the Manawatu. spring show to judge Holstein and Friesian cattle and the pig classes. Mr. G. W. Biniiey, a well-known Auckland merchant, died yesterday. Some weeks ago (says a Press wire-, while on a voyage from Sydney to Auckland, he fell down the companion-way of the steamer and sustained serious injury. The death occurred at Auckland yesterday of the Hon. William Kelly, M.L.C., in his OJth year. Deceased represented Howick and Opotiki in the Auckland Provincial Council until the abolition of the provinces. He sat in the House of Representatives for a number of years, and was called to the Legislative Council in 1897.

The death is reported from Papatawa, near Woodville,, of a Crimean veteran, Mr. James Blake, aged 75 years. He served during the whole campaign, being at Alma, Balaklava, and lukerman, and taking part iir the siege of Sebastapol. As a private in the Scotch Fusiliers, Blake was an eye-witness of the famous charge of the Light Brigade. Hcrr Benno Schcrek has returned from Fiji by the Taviuni with Madame Carreno's three daughters, Teresita (Mrs. Blois), Eugenie, and Hcrtlm. The firstnamed is herself a noted pianist, and has toured successfully in Russia, Scandinavia, and Germany. She was recently married in Melbourne to Mr. Blois. Madame Carreno and her daughters will spend two or three, weeks at 'Rotorua prior to sailing for Vancouver. Herr Benno Schcrek is making arrangements for his next tour through Australia and New Zealand, for which he has engaged Madame Alida Loman, a famous lyric soprano, from Amsterdam.
