PROVINCIAL NEWS.

WHANGAMOMONA. From Our Own Correspondent. A large crowd gathered in the Whan-Min-iuona hall last Monday to bid fareveil to Mr. and Mrs. Taunt, who are 'e.iving here for New Plymouth. Dancing .1111! ringing were kept up till morning. During the evening Mr and Mrs Taunt wVr; each presented with very handsome gifts. Mr Taunt has been in the d -.trict for some years as manager for Messrs McCluggage Bros. He was very popular, and will be greatly missed. Mr Taunt has joined the firm of Messrs E. Griffiths and Co, of New Plymouth, as accountant. A very uncommon thing was witnessed on the Ohura road about a week ago. The road is in a very bad stale, the worst part being the Mangatuku saddle. It was on this saddle that the incident occurred. No less than five waggors, each drawn by five horses, were bogged all within a chain of each other. Ntxt came the Stratford - Whangainomona coach, which had to wait for over an hour for the waggons to be dug out, passengers and all helping—and "not a man swore. The new cheese factory is to be opened on the 20th inst. The building is complete, and Mr G. Thomas, engineer, is putting in the machinery. Nearly all the by-roads in the district are blocked since the heavy rains of the last two weeks, more e'speeiily the County roads. The Government does try and get a track through as soon as possible. Mr J. McCluggage left here last Saturday morning for Stratford. He h;s been in very bad health for some, time past, and last week was worse Ihun usual. Mr MeCutchan is on a biuiucjs visit to Wellington. Mr V. Long, master of the Marco road school, has left here to take up his duties at the Matau and halftime schools. Mr Coates takes Mr Long's place.
