BALL CARTRIDGES AT SHAM i FIGHT. Vienna, September ,18. Two corporals were killed by ball cartridges during manoeuvres at Kfl.llowitz. Four privates have been arrested for having in their possession fourteen ball cartridges. PROFESSIONALISM IN SPORT. Melbourne, September 19. At a smoke concert under the auspices of the Metropolitan Football Association, one speaker declared thai the expenses allowed to members of ssnior clu'bs had become a scandal. The remedy was to put it out of the power 'if flayers to demand heavy sums for socalled expenses. Another speaker said players had become managers of the game and veiled professionalism was rampant.
INCOME-TAX IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, September 10. In the Legislative Assembly, Mr' Bent submitted his reduction of income tax proposal. He said he would not be sorry if the proposal were not carried. The country could not afford the reduction. If it were adopted, it would mean cutting down votes in committee. The reduction of the tax wag altered from 20 to 5 per cent. The amount of incomes exempted frojn the tax was raised to £l5O.

One hundred and fifty bales of wool and skins, a portion of the cargo of the stranded Patroclus, have been* landed ai:d forwarded to London. Large quantities of wheat have been jettisoned, so as to relieve the strain on the vessel. Tho propects of salvage diave improved as the cargo has been discharged. .
