DOMINION DAY.
STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. Pur Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Sir Joseph Ward slates the Government does not suggest that a public holiday on Dominion Day should be in addition to the already lengthy list of nnnunl holidays. The Government is considering whether one or more holidays can be merged into one and observed on Dominion Day. A decision on this point will be come to later. In any case, the public may rest assured that Dominion Day will not be celebrated hereafter as an additional holiday. Under these circumstances, the Premier trusts Talmerston and Dannevirke, the only towns that have so far decided not to observe the 20th instant as a holiday, will favourably reconsider their decision. A public i\; rntion, with a musical programme, is being arranged to take place in the Town Hall on th« cvcnin» of Dominion Day. ° The Education Board has circularised committees throughout the district suggesting that all schools co-operate in the celebrations. Greymouth, Last Night. The council decided to-night to celebrate Dominion Day, and the Mayor will proclaim Thursday a holiday. Auckland, Last Night. Arrangements for the celebration of Dominion Day are well forward. A parade of troops is to he held in Victoria Park, and the various bands are to assemble and perform The Mayor is to hold a reception, and in some places the children are to be entertained.
