EXPLOSION OF A SHELL. I * I'okio, .September 1?. A shell exploded on the Japanese warship Kasliima during target practice ull Kure. lour men were killed and thirty-nine injured. Several of tkosct injured died from their wounds. London, September 17. Renter's correspondent at Tokio statecs that the catastrophe on board the Kashira i was due to an attempt to remove an unexploded twelve-inch sheil from a. gun. The majority of the bystanders were fearfully mutilated. The Kashima was badly damaged. Among those killed were a lieutenant, two. cadets, and a staff officer. 27 KILLED. 8 SERIOUSLY WOUXDKD Received 18th, 11 p.m. Tokio, September IS. Five officers and 22 men were killed' on the Kii-hirjnn, and two officers and six men severely injurctl. The hull of the vessel was not damaged.
