MANSLAUGHTER
Per Press Association. Whangarei, Wednesday. An elderly Portuguese named Richard Pedro was charged at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court with the manslaughter of William Bantall, who was killed by running trucks in the Kiripaka coalmine on July 27th. It is alleged that Pedro, who was acting as banksman, failed to attach a rope to the trucks before lowering them into the mine. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed.
