THE "ALL GOLDS'* TOUR.

CEYLON DEFEATED.

Rec.ivcd Sept. 13, 8.14 p.m. Ceylon, September 13. The New Zealand footballers defeated a Ceylon team by 33 points to 0. THE RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The final match of the season for the Ranfurly Shield is to be played between Auckland and Wangamii to-morrow. McDonald being unable to play for Auekand, his place on the wing will be taken by Imyward, the latter's place in the serum being filled by the inclusion of Mct-uire, of Grafton. The secretary of the local union to-day received a wire lrom Wellington stating that no referee could be got there for the match, and accordingly Mr. Angus Campbell, of Auckland, has been asked to officiate.

the Lyttclton Times, dealing editorially with the Auckland v. Canterbury match, says: "Apparently Auckland has iorgottcn its own traditions. If its mtcrprovincial team plays the game that is fashionable among northern clubs, the sooner the young men find some Other amusement the better. It is doubtful if a more deliberately brutal game has ever been played on a Christchureh ground than that of Saturday. One looks ,or hard knocks at football, but there is a clean line between hard plav and savagery It has to be confessed that the Auckland team's reputation had preceded it. The comments of the reterce ,n its game against Otago showed dearly enough that it had Jailed to obordinary canons of representati\c football. After Saturday's match | we can only think that Mr Evans let the Aueklanders off very lightly. Pro . ial>ly the Otago game was more objectionable to watch because the southern orwards appear to have retaliated, and the spectators tell us that there was more lighting than football in the contest. It is the plain duty of the AuckInnd Union to take the task of reform m hand at once. If the men who control the game have no interest in maintaining high traditions and cleansing it of the elements of unfairness and brutality, they i,a,i better leave the work to more competent hands. The performance of the Auckland representative forwards on Saturday, with the exception ot Fnmcis, was a disgrace to Rugby looball, and that is the unvarnished truth."
