NIGHTCAPS MINE COMMISSION.

Per Press Association. ■ Invercargill, Last night. Archibald Dixon, deputy at Nightcaps mine, in the course of his evidence at the Commission to-day, said that after Mr. Frame asked to have the fan started, witness pointed out a door which was opened just at the time of the explosion. The explosion immediately followed the opening of the door. The chairman expressed the opinion that this was most important, and asked witness if he understood why the door opened. Witness said "No." In his opinion it should not have opened. The opening would have the effect of releasing any firedamp that might have been behind the door.
