Per Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. An interesting case was heard at tho Police Court to-day, when four sailors on the Oreti were charged with absenting themselves without leave. The evidence showed that the men were disI satisfied with their breakfast on Friday morning, nud told the captain they would finish up. They went ashore, and, owing to their non-return, the steamer was unable to sail. Captain Robertson contended that the men could only give twenty-four " hours' notice at the port of discharge—namely, the port at which their articles were signed, in this ease Wellington. The Magistrate upheld this, and sentenced Wilson, tho ringleader, to seven days' imprisonment, and ordered the others to forfeit two days' wages. He subsequently caneellod Wilson's imprisonment, and put him on the same footing as the others. Leave was given to appeal in order to settle the point as to Whether men can leave at a port other than that of final discharge.
