SUPREME COURT.
Per Press Association. Palmerston N., Tuesday. Th? Supreme Court commenced the criminal sessions to-day. E ; ght cases are on the calendar against eight persons. In his charge to the Grand Jury, Mr. Justice Button said none of the cases was serious, with one exception—that of a charge of assault with intent preferred against a Maori, who is alleged to have brutally assaulted a girl at Kakariki recently. A true bill was found against Richard Daly for alleged false declaration. The first case before the court is a charge of iii(lcc?nt assault preferred against Alexander McKee adjourned from the previous sittings. Timaru, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, William Coleman, alias Sutton, found guilty of uttering valueless cheques for £l4, was shown to have a bad record, though only zti years old. He was sentenced to three years' hard labour, and to be dealt with thereafter as an habitual criminal. Two men were charged with robbing a drunken man. One pleaded guilty, and the other wns acquitted. The former was admitted to probation for two years. ..The case against G. H. Parsons for_ embezzlement while clerk of the Waimate .Borough Council is now proceeding.
