There were some dillicultii's in the way of a speedy distribution of the money, and the matter coulrt not he completed before his' predecessor left the district; hence <he delay that hart occurred. The Chief Engineer of Roads acknowledged requests for provision on Hie Estimates for various road works in the county, and promised careful consideration. The application for the

widening of Kaka road during the coming summer would be considered.

MATARO ROAD. Mr G. T. Murray, District Road Engineer, in reierence to the Council's suggestion that the authority of .CAi should bu altered from XI to £1 «ulisidy to an unconditional grant, urjte| tliat the chief engineer had informed! him that this couid not he done. It would therefore be necessary to raise . the local quota. After discussion, it was decided that the clerk should write to the Minister! for Public Works asking for a further subsidy of £ for £ on the balance of the Mataro road loan. TANGITU-URLTI ROAD.

The District Road Engineer will be written to suggesting a survey, with the Council's engineer, of the TangituL'ruti road with a view to its deviation through section 4, block 6, Upper Waitara. y | OTAAROA ROAD DEVIATION. Tho Council's solicitor (Mr J. B. Roy) submitted a deed of agreement between the Council and the landowners concerned in the proposed deviation of the Otaoroa road. This agreement had been prepared after conference between representatives of the Council and tho settlers.—The Council's seal will be allixed to the agreement. NATIVE RATES. It was decided to instruct the County solicitor to sue for rates unpaid in; Maori lands. ENGINEER'S REPORT. | The engineer (Mr C. F. A meeting had been held dur-' ing the month on the Otaraoa road, when all persons interested in the deviation were, present.
