EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION RESOLUTIONS.

Per Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A largely-attended meeting of the Hawkes Hay branch of the Employers' Association was held to-day, when the, following resolutions were adopted:— (1) That this association approve of the method of appointing industrial councils, provided satisfactory arrangements can be made by the appointment of suitable and permanent presidents of unquestionable ability, and that two presidents should be appointed for each island; (2) that the proposed method of collecting workmen's fines by the employers be strongly objected to by this association; (3) that this association approves of the proposal that contributions to unions and associations by other than members should be made compulsory; (4) that applications for permits to work for less than the minimum wage should be made to the Inspector of Awards; (5) that this association disapproves of the inclusion of gasworks and electrical energy works under the Factories Act; (6) that this association is of opinion that the halfholiday now appointed for shops and factories should be made applicable to all places except the four chief centresAuckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and

The special committee set up on Thursday evening by the New Plymouth I'lnployers' Association to consider the proposed amendments to tli Conciliation and Arbitration Act met yesterday, and passed the following ,-e solutions which are to be forwarded to the Advisory Board of the Employers Fcderntion:-(D That this cow mittee, having considered the proposed amendments to the Conciliation end Arbitration Act, is of opinion that 7udiistrr.il Councils would be of far greater service than Conciliation Boards, and recommend that the Councils be given a fair trial; (2) that in respect of the clause making unionism practically compulsory, the effects are ot so far-renching a character, and the, clause is so ingenious that we recimmend the Board to give it very careful consideration.
