APPEAL AGAINST ASSESSMENT COURT.

Justice L'Mniston to-day heard a appeal by the Government Value against the decision of the Otorohang; Assessment Court in assessing the valw of a piece of land, owned by a Maoi woman, at nil. Mr, Tole, Crown' Soli citor, submitted that the land was as scsaable under the Land Act whethei subject to restriction, or not. Mr. Earl for the respondent, admitted that th< land was capable of assessment, Iml that in view of the restne. -ions imposed, its value at the date of .ho assessment was nil. Mr. Tole reeled that respondent could get the retrictions removed, and then dispose of ;he land, and, such being the case, he outended there was a hypothetical alue which was assessable. Mr. Earl aid if the land were offered for sale t the present time it would fetch iotliing, because no purchaser, under he present conditions, could get a title, ml no one would be so foolish as to try. lis Honor reserved decision.
