mmPKcn ixc'ial schoolsMATCH. TARANAKI DEFEAT WELLINGTON. (Special to Daily News.) Eltham, last night. A football match wis played here today between the representatives of Wellington and Taranaki schools, and resulted in a win for the latter by 3 points (a try scored by Brown, of .Stratford,) to nU. The ground was very wet and muddy. Nevertheless, the play was exciting aud interesting right through both spells, and the exhibition of foot lull given by both teams was decidedly good.
The local forwards were heavier th in the visitors, and therefore held the advantage. The defence shown by the Wellington boys was much superior to that of Taranaki.
Brown scored for Taranaki, amids great enthusiasm, about five minute before the call of time. A SUGGESTION-. Sir,—Like a number of others in tin town, I was much disappointed who! I heard the Wellin<rton-T;iranaki match hail been abandoned. In there any p'.s sibility of arranging a match hetweer the teams, to lie playrd here? Th( T.R.U. might, I think, offer the Wei lington men some inducement, such a> half the gates. And I guess the :iv would be about a record for Taramk; as fur as iaterprovincial football is concerned. The Taranaki men are as p;ood a* \re have had for years, and haw improved immensely since they met Auckland. It was a much improved team that met Manaw.itn, the forwards putting more spring into their ivnrk j and packing bettor. For my part, I 11-diovo we eoidd more thnn lmld fiir own with Wellington, and T would like to see the match srmmed.—T am, dc., | NOT SATISFIED. '
