BUT WHY SEND THEM AFIELD? Per Press Association. . Auckland; Last Night. The Rev. H. A. Hawkins leaves tomorrow by the Southern Cross for a long Islands' cruise, the purpose being to see whether an educated , Maori is likely to prove successful in church mission work among certain archipelagoes of the Western Pacific. The Melanesian . Society have within their sphere numer|ous islands peopled entirely by Polynesians, and it is recognised that the Maori is blood kind to these people, and : that those young men who have been J trained for evangelistic work in the church colleges of New Zealand might I find a wide scope for their energies j among them. Mr Hawkins expects to be away some months.
