FEDERAL POLITICS.
A PASSAGE-AT-ARMS. Melbourne, August 30. There is increasing acrimony between Sir W. Lyue (Federal Treasurer) and Sir John Forrest, who recently resigned from the Treasurership. Sir John, while explaining his position in regard to the Bnuldon clause of the Federal Constitution and to old-age pensions, remarked on the position of the Government in the matter. Sir W. Lyne interjected: "The- exTreasurer must not presume to speak as a member of the Government.'' Sir John Forrest: "You want to repudiate the Prime Minister." Sir W. Lyne: "-I want to repudiate you." Sir John Forrest: ''Oh, vou're a humbug."
