TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board resumed on Wednesday morning, all the members being present. STANDING COMMITTEES.
The following standing committers 'were appointed:—Teachers' selection: Messrs Monkhouse, Trimble,' Adlain; linance: Messrs Morton, Kennedy, and Tisch; reserves, Messrs Faull and Morison. RESIGNATIONS.
Mr F. A. Bates resigned from To Kiri school, Mrs Carrie from Tikorangi, Miss Montgomery from Eltliam road, .nut Mr Long from Whangamomona. Usual stops will be taken to till the vacancies. AS OAONUI COMPLAINT. Thu Ihonui committee complained that Mr Henderson had coasutl carrying school children from Kina road, without giving notice. They thought 1 they had been treated very unfairly, seeing Ui '.t tho settlers had raised £22 for him by benefit concert. Mr Morison moved, and Sir Adlam seconded, that the committee be informed that the Board has no hold on Mr Henderson, but considers that after l.he handsome way the settlers behaved :'n , raising ilie sum of £22 for him, he ' should either return the money or continue the service for which it was in- L tended. L
An amendment l>y Messrs Morton and Kennedy to strike out the latter part of Ihe motion after "Henderson",
: was lost. A further amendment was moved by Messrs Monkhouse and Morton and carried, regretting' the position in which the committee was placed, but the Hoard unfortunately had no hold on Mr Henderson.
The matter of carrying tncsp children \v.\H left in the hands of the Oaomii committee to make arrangements. TltO I'BLE,SOME PUPILS. The Tarata committee asked for a grant of .CH ">s 5d for erecting a dividing fence in the playground to separate the boys from the girls. After discussion, in which the special circumstances were stated, the Board decided that it was unable to accede, to
the request, and directed the intention of the committee to tiie Hoard's regulation No. 7 dealing with the supervision liy the teachers of the children whilst in the playground, and also callin,!; attention to the power* of the teacher. under section 139 of the Education Act."

Murray; Hnirangi, Messrs Andrews, Smith, and Loveridge; Xgariki, Mr 1-awn, and one to be appointed; Waihi, Mr Ovenden, and one to be appointed.
The appointment of Messrs A. Cleaver and T. -Davis on the Whanganiomona committee \va.s continued. A CllAllUE DENIED.
The report of a committee comprised a denial by the doctor and the parent concerned in the truant ollicer's allegation that a doctor had given a certilicate of exemption without having attended the pupil.—Keceived. IMtJJKWOUD TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
A letter was read from the secretary of the lngiewood committee reporting tiiat a meeting of delegates from Inglewood district schools had decided to ask the Government to erect a technical school at Inglewood.—T ho Board decided to suggest the renting of a building temporarily, with ;i view of testing the support likely to be received. TONOAI'OKUTU.
The Secretary for Education wrote regarding an application for a grant for the erection of a residence at Tongaporutu: ou say that the teacher has been living in a small hut with his wife and family. I have that the section upon which this iiut stands was obtained by the Board and added to the school site for the reason th.it the hut was standing 011 it, and thus to afford a residence for t-ho teacher," N "Tllli SCHOOL JOURNAL.' The Department asked how the School Journal was being used. On the motion of Messrs Morton and Adlam, it was decided to inform the Department that the Inspectors have given instruction to teachers that the ''Journals" are to .be used as "unseen" or "sight'

Leave of aWnee was granted to Miss lSlake, pupil teacher at Toko, on account of illness.
Messrs A. It. Davis, W. A. Davis, and If. Wells protested against the proposal to remove the Piikearuhe school to Wai-iti.—To be acknowledged. Douglas 'committee- was granted lnlfcost 01 metalling the playground, and asked for a subsidy towards tile cost of erecting a shelter shed, the committee h ivitig raised £3.—A subsidy of £2 for £1 was granted. An application from the Stanley road committee for an enlarged playground was referred to the Reserves Committee.
Mrs Dew-hirst, teacher at tie Egmont village school, wrote thanking' the Hoard for the erection of a new residence; which she said was "substantially built, and beautifully finished, reflecting grent credit on both architect and builder."
The .Salisbury road committee reported an outbreak of skin irritation amongst the children, and suggested that the District Health Officer }ie asked to visit and report.—Agreed to. The Stratford committee will be. Informed that the Board cannot supply <|iiarterly returns of receipts and expenditure at the Stratford Technical School but that any information can always be obtained from the director.
Mv Adlam reported on repairs effect-! Ed at Okato and Omata.—Action approved.
The Board confirmed the action of committees in closing schools on account of illness at Tariki Whangamomona. Stanley road, Kolmratahi, and Stratford.
The Hurimonna committee asked tfiat the school be made a full-time school.—lmpossible at present. The Stanley road committee asked that the boys be allowed to take gymnastic exercises on a half-day in eich week, a gentleman in the district oaring free tuition—Left in the hands of tlie chairman.
The Education Department forwarded Oil copies of the report of the Wellington Training College for the year 1!)0(>. llic \\ ellinglon Board had suggested that (lie Board concerned might i>e willing to pay iho cost of the extra copies printed for distribution .and the Boird's share would be £1 H s (id.—The Board considered tlie publications should be supplied to Boards free of cost.
