LIFE PROTECTION ON SHIPBOARD.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, August 28.

The enquiry into the drowning of Joseph Thomas Hughes by being washed overboard from the schooner Waratah in a heavy sea 011 July 16, off Oamavu, concluded to-day. The Coroner (Mr C. C. Graham) came to the following decision: "That deceased was accidentally washed overboard from the schooner Waratah, and drowned at sea, and that the accident might possibly have been prevented had proper life-lines been fitted 011 the vessel as. required in terms of section 9 of the regulation of February U, 1907, and would further suggest that in future it be made imperative that in circumstances similar to the present, a strong netting, supported by wire l properly set up, be fitted in lieu of life-lines.
