FIREARMS FREELY USED.

Melbourne, August 26. Four detectives had a desperate fight with four suspected burglars at Collingwood. The quarry was surprised while unloading the proceeds of a recent robbery at a tobacconist's shop. Tho detectives used their revolvers in the struggle, and the suspects retaliated by firing a revolver, and throwing empty bottles. Tobaccco valued at £240 was seized.
