THE OPPOSITION DISUNITED. Melbourne, August 26. Borne dissatisfaction is apparent in lir Eekl'n party owing to his mild attitude towards tne tariff. PROTEST FROM SYDNEY HOUSEWIVES. Received 27th, LI ajn. Sydney, August 20.
A large meeting of women adopted retolutions emphatically protesting again-t the high duties placed on the necessaries of life. It was contended that the duties will compel many housekeepers, jrho will not be increased, either to run into debt or use coarser food and shoddy clothing.
It was decided to forward the resolution to Sir W. Lyne, also to ask the Lord Mayor to call a meeting of protest.
