WHELCH'S INTENTIONS. Per Press Association. Chrislcliurrh August 24. On I iiesdny Geo. Wl-cleh. amateur sculling champion of N?w Zealand, received a cable from R. Arnst, who is at present in Sydney, asking if he was willing to row a match with him in New Zealand for £IOO aside. Whelch, in reply, asked Arnst when he wanted to take the match on, and up to yesterday he had received no reply to his ques-

He intends to allow no professional matches to stand in the way of his attaining the amateur cup. Should Arnst he willing ho will row off with him after the next championship regatta. Whelch is anxious also to meet Webb, nnd once he has the Edmonds' Cup will make arrangements for a meeting with the world's champion.
