A LOCK-OUT AVERTED.
SHIPBUILDING WORKERS' UNION BROUGHT TO REASON.,
Received 25th, 4.52 p.m. London, August 25. The caulkers have been ordered to resume work on Monday. In consequence, the Employers' Federation has withdrawn the lock-out notices to the boilermakers-employed in the shipbuilding yards. Negotiations are progressing with the latter for it permanent agreement to prevent sudden and extreme measures by either side.
(The Shipbuilding Employers' Federation gave a week's notice of dismissal to 00.000 members of the Boilermakers' boeicty employed in the shipbuilding yards of the Tyne, the Clyde, Wear, Barrow, and Belfast, in consequence of the Boilermakers' Society refusing to Instruct caulkers employed in Armstrong's yard at Newcastle to return to work after opening a strike without notice, •l he action of the Employers' Federation cieated surprise and consternation among the men.)
